SACRET JOURNEY 2026

Sacred Journey 2026 marks the beginning of an ancestral voyage across the Caribbean Sea, where brave canoeists bring to life a Maya tradition more than 500 years old. Departing from Polé, an ancient pre-Hispanic port located in what is now Xcaret, they set course for Cozumel to honor Ixchel, goddess of the moon, fertility, and creation.

Canoes of Ceiba and Salt is a live, immersive experience that honors navigation as a sacred act and physical effort as a form of devotion. The ceiba, a sacred tree and the axis of the Maya cosmos, salt as a symbol of human labor, and the color red as an expression of life and offering, give shape to a narrative that weaves together spirituality, commerce, and living tradition.

Through ritual, dance, live music, and symbols inspired by ancient worldviews, the journey brings the greatness of the pre-Hispanic world vividly to life.

KNOW THE STORY

THE ORACLE

Ixchel was one of the primary pre-Hispanic goddesses when the Spanish arrived in the region, and the pilgrimages to her sanctuaries outstood. Most scholars believe the Oracle was in the archaeological zone of San Gervasio in Cozumel.
